Daily Sizzle: Important enough for my local newspaper.
The newest and first feature of Fajitamonday is the Daily Sizzle. (Do
NOT count on seeing one everyday) The Daily Sizzle is where us here at FM, rant, rave, hate, and date pretty much anything we want.
this is happening in your neighborhood.
What is this world coming to? The economy is in a nose-dive, the jonas brothers are considered a popular form of entertainment, Wife-Swap is making the main page of the CNN website, and Old people are becoming familiar with widely used commercial electronics. Today’s Sizzle comes from none other than the home state of our very publication. A state known for all things maple syrup, suburus (1 out of every 4 cars is an outback), and ofcourse, old people. Mr. Curran has created a thought provoking article about the trials and tribulations of the eldery in their attempt to do… anything.
You don’t have to rent a bus, put everyone on the bus, go to the bowling alley, rent shoes, rent balls. But you can provide an equivalent experience,” said Elinor Ginzler, senior vice president for livable communities for AARP
This quote is great for one reason in perticular. replace Senior vice president for livable communities for AARP with THE NAMES OF ANY PARENTS IN AMERCA. I’m quite certain Elinor went on to say; “the only hard part is getting them to stop playing! We give them 2 hours a day TOPS and thats if they have done all their work (aka had at least half a bowel movements and done one lap up and down the halls in the walker) It’s nice to see the eldercare community embracing the same tools parents have been using since the Atari 2600 to not have to deal with their children.
Just a few other things to consider:
“I’m afraid of computers, but it doesn’t seem like that’s what you’re doing. It’s wonderful. You can bowl without going out to bowl,”
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!? You’re teaching them not to fear that which we use to control them! When my grandparents came to stay with me for a couple months, I put four computers and a toaster in the bedroom they stayed in to ensure they would never get up the nerve to say anything.
Some have bought their own game system for their homes, others have learned to play at senior centers. Holiday Park Senior Center in Wheaton, Md., recently hosted a Wii bowling tournament.
I won that tournement. Wiped the floor with them! Bowled 4 consecutive perfect games. Althought I had to give mr. crawford a fake controller and rig his semi final match. The man’s parkinsons gave his throws a killer spin, clearly, an unfair advantage.
